Father Jean-Yves has ministered in the catholic congregation of the Holy Spirit since 1963. He was an outstanding priest, spiritual leader, teacher, human rights activist, journalist, and videographer. He left an indelible mark on the youth of College Saint Martial, Furcy, Sant Twa Ti Flè, and the Haitian community at large.

Exiled from Haiti by Papa Doc Duvalier in 1969, father Urfié, ministered to the Haitian diaspora abroad: He founded a cultural youth program serving Haitian immigrants in Brooklyn, New York; he directed a seminary in Gabon; and served as a Chaplain of the Haitian Migrants and a District Supervisor in Guyana.

Father Urfié was assigned to the prestigious function of Asssistant Secretary General in Rome. He served as a Communications Director, Web Designer, Video Maker, and Publisher of the Spiritus magazine in France.

Fr. Jean-Yves was a friend and supporter of Sant Twa Ti Flè.  In 2019, he initiated a grant request that led to the enhancement of the center’s computer lab with the help of volunteer Technology Teacher, Allan Quellery. The computer lab was renamed in his honor:“Sal Teknoloji Pè Jan-Iv .“

We are grateful to have been blessed with Fr. Urfié’s love, compassion, and advocacy.

May he rest in God’s love and peace!
